Lori Steinhorst, through the very words of a serial killer himself, manages to do what no one else has been able to do to date. She uncloaks the monster in the closet by revealing his inner thoughts and actions, and we see what we have always feared The monster is no monster at all, but rather a human being, who looks like any other. Yet, he is torn and twisted by irresistible, compelling, and uncontrollable desire to molest and kill children.
Through his desire to prevent others from being like himself and to prevent children from falling victim to those who would prey on them, convicted molester/killer Westley Allan Dodd, tells it all. But most importantly, he tells you how there are no monsters in our closets - the are on our streets, in our children's playgrounds, schools, and come knocking at our front doors!
When Monster Comes Out of the Closet eBook Lori Steinhorst and John R Rose John Rose
It feels rather wrong giving this book 5 stars in regards of how much I 'liked' this book. I didn't like this book at all and I'm sure that the only people who could genuinely 'like' this book are very disturbed people. However, for what this book is and what it is meant to do, it cannot be topped and that is why you rarely see copies up for sale. I have seen this book sell for over $1,000 before and if you are lucky/unlucky enough to snag a copy it will show you an incredibly dark world that will haunt you for the rest of your life. This book is everything that you've heard and more. It's twisted, brutally honest, raw, and sickening. Westley does not hold back and if you are looking to dive into the minds of twisted individuals like Westley, this book will definitely give you more insight than you could ever imagine. However, it will not be something that you will soon forget. It's probably a good thing that this book is not widely available. It's not a book that just anyone should be allowed to read.Product details

When Monster Comes Out of the Closet eBook Lori Steinhorst and John R Rose John Rose Reviews
If your goal is to read a compelling and mystery filled true crime novel then this is not for you. If, on the other hand, you wish to further understand what a real monster is like from his own perspective then you've come to the right place. Not only do you get an inside look at what goes on in the mind of a serial criminal but you also get a good sense of how you can help protect yours and other children from predators like Dodd. Read with extreme caution, this is not a light book in any sense.
This book was very painful and nauseating to read to no fault of the author. It does open your eyes as there are many like this monster walking in our midst today. Parental diligence is needed at all times in our society today.
The book although stated to be written by Lori Steinhorst and John Rose, is almost entirely written by serial killer Westley Allan Dodd, who tells stories about the countless children he's molested over the years, giving an inside view of the life of a child predator. The book should serve as a warning to parents and all those who read it to keep an eye out for monsters like Dodd. Throughout the book he even explains how he played the system and was caught maybe once every 30 children he had molested, making him feel invincible. Dodd never believed he'd be caught or even punished very harshly. He also goes into detail about how he planned to start eating victims, mainly their genitals. And at times he shows no remorse for his crimes, stating that he's only pretending to have remorse. Other times he demands to be put to death, and claims he can't live with what he's done. The book also features an interview with a woman who wrote to Dodd in prison and fell in love with him. It also features a lengthy letter written by her with commentary on it written by Dodd, stating how delusional she is.
This is written by Westley Allan Dobbs, a child molester/serial killer executed in Washington in 1993 by hanging. This is his story, written by him, and you can tell by his comments he is reliving the moments as he wrote these letters. As such it is a very disturbing read, but necessary to understand a child killer/abuser. It also has a interview with the hibristophilic girlfriend and some of her letters. Dobbs comments on her letters how he wishes to abuse her children, who she sent questionable pictures of to him while he was on death row. Overall the most disturbing novel I have read, but it is a true look inside the child molesters mind, motives, and tactics.
Fascinating, but also highly repulsive, disgusting, and hard to rate. This book puts you directly into the thought process of a “man” who was a pedophile, child rapist, and murderer. That is of somewhat questionable value.
So why 5 stars? Because I feel like the author/interviewer did a good job with what she did. Also, disgusting as it is, the book is definitely fascinating at times.
It is incredibly bizarre to hear Westley Allan Dodd repeatedly go on these tirades blaming law enforcement for not punishing him or stopping him from doing his crimes. I mean, he gets downright indignant about it. And while he is correct (sort of), where is any taking responsibility for maybe deciding not to abuse kids in the first place? It just shows you the odd sort of detachment that he had mentally in the way he talks about these crimes. Like these kids aren’t even real people.
One of the most fascinating parts of this book is less about Dodd and more about the creepy sorts of women that serial killers attract while in jail. Toward the end of the book, we get some detailed interviews and correspondence with a woman who was convinced that she was in love with him. She was a stalker type, definitely not right in the head, and Dodd’s comments about her are both humorous and spot on. It is sad and pathetic that a child molester can attract a woman determined to “love” and *fix* him. Just weird, man!
The kindle version has a lot of formatting errors. It would be nice if these were cleaned up some time.
This is a new concept in true crime writing for me, a first person account of the thoughts and actions of a confessed predator. The casual conversation of this molester murderer belies how utterly dangerously depraved he eventually became.
Some of the earlier reviews demonstrate how repugnant this subject is, but trashing it or deleting it doesn't make pedophiles/molesters/murderers in our world less dangerous to our society. This is a vivid wake up call for parents (or anyone caring for children) to be ever vigilant for their safety. Fortunately, this guy paid the ultimate price for his actions, and if anything good could possibly come of this, it's his own warning against people like him; even though at times he seems to be bragging about what he did, Equally disturbing and sick is the "admirer" of his while he was on death row awaiting execution.
There is apparently no limits to the depths of depravity some people can descend, and reality can sometimes be pretty harsh on our emotions. This is an informative glimpse that makes it's point very loud and clear. Not for everyone, but highly recommended for those who want to have a better understanding of what the pedophile is all about.
